Artist’s
Bio
Deanna Welters is a local British Columbia artist. Born and raised
in New Westminster she currently resides in Surrey with her husband
and two children.
Her
love of nature is reflected in her work, as is a love of colour
and rhythm. Her affinity with textiles stems from a lifetime appreciation
for this serviceable and ancient art form. Surface design on fabric
dominates her artistic endeavours, which also include printmaking
and oil painting. Deanna has her Diploma in Fine Arts from Kwantlen
College, and currently works from her home studio.
Working
primarily on silk this artist employs one, or a combination of methods,
in executing a design. These include wax resist, screen printing
and painting with thickened dyes and water colour techniques. Colour
is a key element of her work and possibly what she enjoys most,
preferring the use of strong value, bold hues and refreshing colour
combinations to attract the eye in a positive way
Inspiration
comes from the natural and urban world. Intriguing images can be
translated into abstract designs, representational work or a combination
of images and patterns.
