Ron Bazar

Artist’s Bio

Ron Bazar was born in Montreal. He has had varied careers as entrepreneur, business consultant, writer and
publisher. He first came to Cortes Island in 1984 and moved there full time in 1998.

He has been a hobby wood turner on and off since he was 12, making bowls, lamps, and incense holders.

It was while gathering arbutus for a turning project that the idea for the Arbutus Kitchen Collection to Arbutus
Culinary Collection was born. The rough pieces from pre-shaping with an axe were going into the kindling box.
Some of them looked so gorgeous, that from a choice piece, he made his first letter opener as a gift for his mother.
Since then, Ron has been selling in many fine galleries in Vancouver, Victoria and Banff.

Ron uses only arbutus wood for his kitchen collection because of its spectacular array of grain colours.
His work progresses through 5 quality selections depending on the rarity of the piece of arbutus
and the degree of finishing.
