Artist’s Bio

Kathleen Murphy makes her pottery in her home studio with high fire stoneware and porcelain clay. Her creations are based on a belief that her work must be functional as well as beautiful in form, colour and texture. Her designs are influenced by the traditions of Greek pottery.

Kathleen Murphy hand builds her pieces, and throws on the wheel as well. After wheel throwing, she may alter and assemble according to the purpose and aesthetics of the piece.

She has created all her own glazes and is constantly experimenting with new recipes and techniques. All pieces are food, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.

She makes pottery on a production level as well as creating one of a kind pieces. Kathleen Murphy appeals to many people by making small as well as larger pieces, always staying true to her philosophy of making pieces that are functional as well as beautiful.
