Catharine McPherson
Artist’s
Bio
Catharine
has been working with metal since 1985. She began using metal in
her installation work in Toronto while attending the Ontario College
of Art. She was involved in a variety of juried shows from 1984-1989
in Toronto, and continued to make large constructive installations
until her move to the westcoast.
Since 1990 Catharine has decided to tailor her work to accommodate
her new lifestyle as a parent and homeschooling mother of three.
She used copper as a medium while participating in a group Show
in Toronto in 1989 called 'The Crossing'. Finding herself without
the means to produce more large scale 3-D work when she arrived
in Vancouver Catharine decided to revive the old art of copper tooling
creating utilitarian works of art.
She
draws her designs onto thin sheets of copper and adheres the sheets
to bases of wood and other forms. Once attached to the form Catharine
applies a patina and scrubs the excess off to further enhance the
drawing. Catharine's variety of Copperwork designs can
enhance any home environment .
