Sheila Morissette

Artist’s Bio

Sheila Morissette is a full time North Shore clay artist. The arts have always been a big part of her life. She obtained a University degree in Communication Studies in 1990, and has had broad experience in many mediums including photography, filmmaking and fibre art. Having been reintroduced to clay in 1994, it has been the most personal and intimate medium to work with and Sheila has embraced it fully for the last seven years. She has been exploring and embracing new possibilities in a medium drenched in tradition and history.

Sheila is strongly drawn to working with her hands and feels a great satisfaction in creating objects from clay, from the earth. She feels a real bonding with clay as her creative energy slowly transforms it with personal expression. Sheila's work ranges from clever functional wares, which beg to be used, to more creative and stimulating shapes and forms. She has experimented with many techniques including majolica, oxidation firing, raku, pit firing, salt and soda firing while using a variety of clays and glazing techniques.
