Charlies O'Neil

Artist’s Bio

Wire sculpture is a creative and expressive art form to Charles O'Neil. Currently, his works focus on life forms, i.e. animals and, most often, the human form. His goal is to inject humour in his sculptures, hoping to make people smile. And in that, he has certainly been successful. His human figures are alive and full of grace and energy.

With a background in drawing and painting, about six years ago the artist was introduced to wire as a creative medium. Fascinated by the creative possibilities of three-dimensional sculptures he began forming creatures from steel rods and wire, using only simple hand tools. First, he forms an armature for strength and proportion. Wires are then bound in place without welding or soldering. Upon completion, the sculpture is protected with a coat of clear lacquer.

The artist's work is constantly developing and evolving. He is very much excited with the process of creating life out of an inanimate product and hopes that the works will draw a smile from the viewer.
