Alice Philips
Artist’s
Bio
Alice
Philips is a fabric artist, working primarily in felt-making. She
creates wearable abstract landscape in the form of coats, vests
and hats, as well as carpets, hangings, screens, and sculpture.
Alice
uses a variety of raw wool which are selected for their felting
characteristics, texture and wearability. They are cleaned and hand-dyed
to provide a wide palette range. Then they are hand-felted by layering
and building up colour and texture to realize the intended design.
The muted quality of wool felt is highly evocative of the quality
of west coast light.
Alice
is a resident of Vancouver, British Columbia, and works and teaches
out of her home studio
