Kaija Rautiainen considers herself a tapestry artist, but to balance the long and intensive weaving time needed to create each tapestry, she always has more immediate works going on the side. In this case, thickets, twigs and buds seen on nature walks caught her attention and fueled her imagination. She decided to use them to create something spontaneous. Weaving and sculpting her "organic boxes" has been a very exciting experience. Making them has been as much fun as collecting twigs and roots, and it has opened her eyes to see beauty in the most mundane materials.
