Artist’s Bio

Brent Rourke Cabinetmaker is a small family operated woodworking business located in Hampton, New Brunswick along the beautiful Kennebecasis River. In business formally since 1996, Brent has been making Shaker Oval Boxes and carriers since 1990.

His business philosophy is based on that of the Shaker's: valuing high quality craftsmanship, usefulness, and honesty.

The vision at Brent Rourke Cabinetmaker is to increase the awareness of traditional craftsmanship and the realization of Shaker Boxes for usefulness as well as a decorative gift item.

Boxes and carriers come in either natural cherry, ash, birds-eye maple or a distressed paint finish. Paint colors are red, blue green and yellow. Boxes come with lids of various woods such as cherry, ash and birds-eye maple.

Veneer is hand selected for the boxes, it is then cut to size and the "fingers" are cut out. The bands are soaked in hot water to make them pliable enough to bend around a form. They are then tacked with copper tacks that are made on the same machinery they would have been a century ago. After drying they are fitted with a top and a bottom. Finally they are hand finished with three coats of Tung Oil.
