Artist’s Statement

My name is Leila Amin. I was born in Iran-Tehran. I studied handcraft at the Art University of Iran for five years and received bachelor's certification. My interest in this particular and traditional field of papier-mâché is based on an ancient Iranian art, inspired by Ghalamdan.

The following is a brief instruction for creating a work in papier-mâché: The base of any object is made up of paper (newspaper), which is turned into a paste. This paste is then coated by a layer of plaster. The traditional design is then applied and the final coloured surface is covered by a varnish to protect it.
