Process Information

I am interested in exploring narrative and metaphor through my imagery or installations. I want the viewer to be drawn to ask what precipitated the event I present and what might come afterwards. My works are usually produced as a series over a number of years. I embrace the tradition of fibre art which includes thoughtful commentary on contemporary life. Techniques and materials interest me primarily for their potential to extend the meaning of the work. Fibre allows me to construct images out of materials that already carry connotations and associations, such as clothing or upholstery. Embroidery is used to give depth, texture and movement to surfaces and focuses attention on important details. I treat these elements as a rich vocabulary to convey my own dilemmas, anxieties, celebrations, outrages and memories.
