Artist’s
Statement
Maria
Palotas, born in Budapest Hungary, developed an interest in the arts at
age 12. By the time she was 14 she was attending fine arts and
sculpture classes at the Huber Desi and Ferenczy Beni Fine Arts Studio
in Budapest. From there, Maria started to focus on pottery and became
an apprentice at the Ari Lakatos and Andrea Kiss studio. After 2 years
of honing her skills in this setting, Maria opened her own studio and
eventually became a mentor to eager students seeking private lessons as
well as a potter in her own right; selling her work publicly and
showing pieces in galleries around Budapest and Gyor. Maria has since
pioneered a revival of Pueblo style.
As
an
instructor Maria encourages her students to develop a thorough
knowledge of the artistic and technical foundations of the pottery
craft. She offers classes that range from foundations to intermediate
throwing.
