Artist’s Statement

I am a fine woodworker and a forester, living in Revelstoke, British Columbia. I recently started my own business, crafting fine furniture on a commission basis. I started making studio furniture while at Selkirk College in the Fine Woodworking Program (2001-2003). Before this, I studied forestry at the University of British Columbia and worked as a professional forester for many years throughout British Columbia, and more recently in the Revelstoke area. Prior to that I studied Fine Arts at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Spending time in the mountains often provides the inspiration for my furniture designs. My furniture is thoughtfully designed and well constructed. It has a distinctive style - contemporary, with organic curves that bring together her love of trees and art. I prefer to work with woods indigenous to North America such as maple, cherry, walnut, and Douglas fir. My work is one-of-a-kind or limited production, built to be enjoyed for many generations.

Dream Sweep, 2005
Queen size bed - Douglas fir ,Tung Oil
The graceful curves on the headboard of this bed contrasts with the straight grained Douglas fir to give it a "dream-like" quality - perfect for a bed.

Java Flow - 2004
48 deep x 60 wide x 155 cm tall, Cherry
This table is made of solid cherry. The curved legs are stained darker. The inlay on the top, and the stain represent coffee flowing over the table. The table has a "keel" edge.

Shelter - 2003
50 deep x 110 wide x 200 cm wide
Cherry and Curly Maple china cabinet
I chose the graceful form of a tree to give shape to this cabinet, whose curving double doors conceal storage drawers. The flowing line of the tree trunk and branches support an arched top that echoes the curve of a mature tree's canopy. This design is inspired by the many years working as a professional forester in British Columbia
